You open the fridge, see half a bell pepper, two eggs, some leftover rice and a lemon… and end up ordering takeout. We’ve all been there. The good news: with a simple method, there’s almost always a full meal hiding in there.
1. Start with what spoils first
Check soft vegetables, fresh herbs, open dairy and cooked leftovers first. Those are today’s stars. Things that last for weeks (grains, dried beans, canned goods) can wait.
2. Use the base + protein + flavor formula
- Base: rice, pasta, bread, tortillas, potatoes or even eggs.
- Protein: eggs, chicken, tuna, beans, chickpeas, cheese or tofu.
- Flavor: garlic, onion, citrus, soy sauce, spices or herbs.
If you have at least one item from each group, you have a dish.
3. Pick a forgiving technique
Some formats accept almost anything: fried rice, omelet or frittata, tacos or wraps, soup and tossed pasta. When in doubt, a hot stir-fry with a good sauce rarely fails.
4. Finish with acid and salt
A squeeze of lemon or a splash of vinegar plus a pinch of salt right before serving makes a “whatever was there” dish taste intentional.
5. Let AI do the heavy lifting
In Cooking Genie you type what you have (or snap a photo) and get a balanced recipe with amounts, steps and nutrition. With Pantry mode you don’t even need to retype your ingredients.
Tip: store leftovers in clear containers at eye level. What you see is what you cook.
