Cooking GenieThis policy explains what data the Cooking Genie iPhone app and the cookinggenieapp.com website (“Cooking Genie”, “we”) process, why, and what control you have. Our principle is simple: we only use your data to give you recipes, we never sell it, and we don’t show ads.
1. Data we process
- Account: your user ID, email address and, if you share it, your name. With Sign in with Apple you can hide your real email and Apple will give us a private relay address.
- Preferences: diets, allergies, favorite cuisines, cooking skill and language.
- Content you create: ingredients you type, your virtual pantry, generated recipes, favorites and folders.
- Photos (Snap & Cook): when you choose to use a photo, we send it to identify the ingredients. We don’t keep the photo after processing.
- Subscription: your Genie+ status and the transaction identifiers Apple provides. We never receive your payment details; Apple handles them.
- Technical data: minimal diagnostics and usage data (for example, recipes generated per day, to enforce the free plan limit, and app errors) and device integrity signals to prevent abuse.
2. How we use it
- To create and personalize your recipes.
- To save your pantry, recipes and preferences, and sync them across your devices.
- To manage your account and subscription, and enforce free plan limits.
- To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and fix bugs.
- To answer your support requests.
We don’t use your data for advertising, we don’t sell it, and we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
3. Artificial intelligence
To generate recipes, we send our AI provider (OpenAI), through our server, the ingredients, your photo if you use Snap & Cook, and the preferences needed for that recipe. We don’t send your name or email. OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train its models and may retain it for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring.
Recipes are generated automatically and may contain mistakes. Always double-check allergens, temperatures and cooking times.
4. Who we share data with
Only service providers that help us run the service and act on our instructions:
- Google Firebase (authentication, database, usage analytics, crash reports and app integrity).
- OpenAI (recipe generation and ingredient recognition in photos).
- Vercel (hosting for our server and website).
- Apple (Sign in with Apple and purchase and subscription processing).
We may also disclose data when required by law.
5. Retention and deletion
We keep your data while you have an account. You can delete your account at any time from Profile › Delete account in the app; this permanently erases your account and content, except data we are legally required to keep. See how to delete your account.
6. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on Google Cloud infrastructure with per-user access controls. No system is 100% secure, but we use reasonable measures to protect your information.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California), you can access, correct or delete your data, object to processing, or request a copy. Email us at piramostudio@gmail.com and we’ll respond within 30 days.
8. Children
Cooking Genie is not directed to children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child gave us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
9. Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll let you know in the app or on this site before they take effect.
